Technology Overview
eMagin is the first and only manufacturer of active matrix OLED-on-silicon microdisplays. Based on its own patent portfolio as well as its OLED license from Eastman Kodak Company, eMagin’s award-winning OLED microdisplays offer not only the advantages of OLED technology over liquid crystal displays but the advantages of integrated silicon chip technology over thin-film transistors – lower weight, higher efficiency, more compact display modules.
eMagin has developed numerous and significant enhancements to OLED technology as well as key silicon circuit designs to effectively incorporate the OLED film on a silicon integrated circuit. For example, the company developed a unique, top-emitting structure that enables OLED displays to be built on opaque silicon integrated circuits. More recently, the company developed OLED-XL™ technology which offers significantly improved brightness and power effienciency, as well as extended operational life.
The company also designs and integrates magnifying optics and systems to deliver a near-eye image comparable to that of a computer monitor or a large-screen television. Other manufacturers have integrated these systems into products, and eMagin sells finished systems for virtual computing and simulation and training.
eMagin’s products are enabling new markets for wearable computers, wireless communications appliances, portable entertainment, digital cameras, and so on. These products support consumer, industrial, medical, defense, and security applications.
