Besides designing the most power-efficient microdisplay for near-eye applications, eMagin designs subsystems, or microviewers, to enable OEMs to implement OLED-based solutions more easily. These customers typically want a full microdisplay solution – display, optic, electronics, and even housing.
Our most familiar microviewer may well be in use at your local fire department. Total Fire Group’s Micro Thermal Imager provides hand-free access to thermal imaging information from a helmet-mounted device. The unit comprises a thermal imager and eMagin’s OLED-based microviewer. Not only does eMagin assemble and ship its microviewer but our lab also qualifies the SVGA+ OLED microdisplay at 85ºC, a full 20º higher than our standard specification. It’s power-efficient, too. The full Micro Thermal Imager – thermal camera, electronics, and display – will run for at least four hours on two standard AA batteries.
The device has proved up to the challenge. It has won broad acceptance among firefighters, proving itself in extreme conditions of both heat and cold.
